Those Old Songs

I could feel that nostalgia coming on
As the radio played some of those old songs
Remembering how they made me feel
When the world was new… and real time was real

Those songs were maps and diaries
Of our hopes and loves and fears
Life was free and you could feel
Forever in the air ….

Playing dusty records,
Frisbee in the park,
Cheesy digs that felt like castles
Burning incense in the dark

Do-wop, hardrock, melodies, to laugh and cry
Change the world with guitar solo’s, young love that would never pass us by

Those songs filled in the spaces
Between the feelings and the words
Those days would last forever
Our songs would always be heard

Writing lyrics in the night
So much I had to say
I saw the world as black and white
Until my hair turned gray

Do-wop, hardrock, melodies to laugh and cry
Change the world with guitar solo’s, young love that would never pass us by

Now I’m writing feelings in the spaces
Between these six strings
I’ve learned to love the simple
Chords of those old songs
Bringing back that place and time
And feelings
And those feelings are among life’s rewards…

Now we’ve changed the world in little pieces,
Each in our own way and time
Planted Trees and sipped clear water,
Sang a baby’s lullabye, and said …

You know It’s no longer ‘cool’, just forget about ‘groovy’,

I love apples during Apple season
