About Mike
“‘Forward looking roots’ flavored with a little ‘backward facing rock’.”
How would I describe my music? I’d say something like ‘forward looking roots’ flavored with a little ‘backward facing rock’. You might hear echoes of John Prine, America, Gordon Lightfoot, or even Tom Petty in my style and lyrics. My songs reflect moments in our everyday lives … some are portraits, some are stories … some share the feelings of quiet moments … some share the excitement of the open road.
I divide my time and music between the Chattanooga, TN area and Ellijay, GA, recording in Chattanooga, and playing out at venues around Chattanooga and north Georgia. I just finished working on my 8th CD which, along with my others, is being recorded independently at 10th Street Studios in Chattanooga. While my songs are written as traditional voice and guitar compositions, the deeper essence of the music evolves at 10th Street Studios, where my acoustic style is accented by complementary instruments and voices.
When I’m not playing solo I play in the Buckskin Sheriff Band, based in Ellijay, GA.
Growing up on the outskirts of New York City, I came to love the folk acoustic troubadour genre that became my formative style. After moving to Tennessee in the 80’s, my writing evolved to the include the roots and rock style that you hear on my CD’s. I’ve taken my original songs to Nashville, where I was able to publish several songs at Crowe Entertainment on Music Row.
My profession as a geologist has allowed me to travel extensively throughout the United States and abroad, providing the experiences for a constant flow of lyrical material.
