Got Time Beat

Lyrics

1. Master Plan

She said “we got all night for that, baby, Beale street’s waitin’,
And we wanna make the most of our time.
We can stay out late just doin’ what we want,
But we gotta make it rhyme”

I said “I’ve been around this block and a couple more places
And I’ve seen it go a little off line
We don’t need a master plan, we’re not runnin’ races
And I’ll bet we turn out fine”

She’s in love … for the first time
And I’m in love … for the last
She’s reachin’ out … from the worst times
I’m reachin’ out … from the past

She said “I’m worried bout our time tickin’down on Beale”
I said “Time is on our side of that street
We gotta trust it as it comes, don’t worry how it goes
This time I think we got time beat.”

She said “I wanna see just how we’re gonna turn out, baby”
I said “We try, but we’ll never know”.
She said “Life is all a garden of weeds and flowers”
I said “ We gotta let it grow”.

She’s in love … for the first time
And I’m in love … for the last
She’s reachin’ out … from the worst times
I’m reachin’ out … from the past

She’s in love … for the first time
And I’m in love … for the last
We’re reachin’ out … for the good times
I got a feelin’ ………. this time its gonna last……

2. Love and Garlic

These days some of us get by with out thinking
And swallow the kool aid without even blinking
Just Live your own life … it’s no mysterious riddle
Don’t buy the ideas they take down off the shelf
Take your life in your hands and think for yourself
Life is like garlic, you can’t do just a little

Don’t do just a little, it’s for you and me
Don’t skimp on the spice, don’t skimp on life
That’s my best recipe
Just spice it up, don’t tone it down
Don’t worry how much you’re usin’
Don’t worry ‘bout what anybody else thinks
Just keep doin’ what you’re doin’

Beware of the haters and blamers alike
Who believe what they hear on the news at five
Just smile … til all sides just collide in the middle
Beware corporate sheep in their ivory tower
Whose bottom line is their higher power
Faith is like garlic, you can’t do just a little

Don’t do just a little, it’s for you and me
Don’t skimp on the spice, don’t skimp on life
That’s my best recipe
Just spice it up, don’t tone it down
Don’t worry how much you’re usin’
Don’t worry ‘bout what anybody else thinks
Just keep doin’ what you’re doin’

Beware of the high life and messing around
Just keep your love on solid ground
And try to hit Cupid’s target right in the middle
You can aim your arrow, but never settle
And when you find that someone special
Love is like garlic, you can’t do just a little

Don’t do just a little, it’s for you and me
Don’t skimp on the spice, don’t skimp on life
That’s my best recipe
Just spice it up, don’t tone it down
Don’t worry how much you’re usin’
Don’t worry ‘bout what anybody else thinks
Just keep doin’ what you’re doin’

‘Cause Love … is just like garlic, you can’t do just a little

3. I Built This Road

I built this road with gravel
I built this road with stones
I built this road with hopeful heart
I built this road with bones

I built this road with promises
I paved the way as true
I built this road with laughter
I built this road for you

Tried to clear away the sorrows
That the wind blows through the years
I built it so tomorrow
Could keep yesterday near

I built this road with kindness
I built this road with faith
I built this road with feeling
I built this road without gates

I built this road from memory
Of what I barely understand
I built this road to always
Hold you in my hands

Tried to clear away the sorrows
That the wind blows through the years
I built it so tomorrow
Could keep yesterday near

I built this road with vision
And lessons I know are true
I built this road with love
I built this road for you

I built this road with love
I built this road for you

5. Dogtown

There’s somethin’ about those palm trees
In Cali the sun’s everywhere
Now he’s followin’ his own coyote and growin’ his hair

He’s come to the end of all his land lines
Gave away his northern clothes
In Venice they’ve all got stories that nobody knows

[but now] He’s found a place that’s cooler than cool
Where the ocean is his Golden Rule
And the cruel world isn’t quite so cruel
In Dogtown

Its the place to watch the sun go down
Til the rest of your life comes around.
Some call it ‘the beach’, but the locals just call it Dogtown

Tired of living in the spaces
Between the white lies that he’ll never be
Now he’s rich ‘cause he’s chillin, just sellin his art by the sea

[‘cause] He’s found a place that’s cooler than cool
Where the ocean is his Golden Rule
And the cruel world isn’t quite so cruel
In Dogtown

Ridin’ the five, drivin’ the nickel
Along the coast , out on the cinco
He’s cruisin’ around in a Buick named Freddy,
Down to the beach, takin’ Route Four Twenty
To Dogtown
From creation … to cremation
Livin’ in the Boardwalk Nation
He’s got a PhD in streetwise smarts
He owns his own dreams, ‘cause he’s made a new start
In Dogtown

Now, he’s forgot all about those little white lies
‘Cause his truth just rolls along with the tide
Found peace where there’s nothing left to hide

[‘cause] He’s found a place that’s cooler than cool
Where the ocean is his Golden Rule
And the cruel world isn’t quite so cruel …
In Dogtown

6. Desert Train

Desert train follows me on my way…my way
Desert train runnin’ Flagstaff to Santa Fe
Tracking over mesa and sand,
Across forgotten land
Desert train is goin’ strong,
Desert train will be runnin’ … long after I’m gone

Desert train follows me on my way…my way
Desert train runnin’ Flagstaff to Santa Fe
On a palette of browns and reds
Tumbleweed and nature’s beds
Desert train is goin’ strong,
Desert train will be runnin’ … long after I’m gone

Desert train follows me on my way…my way
Desert train runnin’ Flagstaff to Santa Fe
Life’s rhythm on the tracks
All along Route 66
Desert train is goin’ strong,
Desert train will be runnin’ … long after I’m gone
